Anti Static Safety
You may have heard of static electricity, it builds up on objects or people under certin conditions, and is usually harmless to people, but can destroy sensitive elecronic parts. So how do you pretect your expensive computer components from it? When pc parts are out of a case, they are most vulnerable, and without the right precautions, will lead to dead components.
In the case of a graphics card, usually they come in two layers, a bubble wrap on the outside to pretect it form physical damage, and anti static, or ESD bag. These bags have a conductive coating on the outside, to discharge electricity before it reaches te graphics card. A common mistake is to take the graphics card out of the bag, and set it on top. This is NOT safe, and will actually make it easier for your graphics card or other component to die. Your graphics card is only safe while inside of the bag. You might ask, "How would I install it if it is only safe inside of the bag?" if you want to safely handle computer parts, here are two methods. Method one is to discharge static from your body by touching a grounded, metal surface, but you will have to do this every couple minutes. The second method is to use an anti static wrist strap, which are wrist straps that will equalize, or eliminate static electricity. This can be done by strapping it to your wrist or ankle, and clipping the other end to a bare metal surface, or grounded object, such as a radiator.
With these tips you can be sure that your precious pc components will stay safe, and static free. If you have any other questions, contact me here.
